New website aims to fill MUA assistant roles
A new website has launched aimed at connecting makeup and special effects (SFX) artists, hair stylists and clients with assistants for work on editorial shoots, music videos and advertising campaigns in addition to annual Fashion Week events.
The launch of Find Me An Assistant (FMAA) comes ahead of London Fashion Week 2024 (12th - 17th September), a time notoriously busy for the industry, with skilled professionals often in short supply and required at short notice.
Assistants set up a profile focusing on their experience, qualifications, location and availability. These profiles are open to view by artists and clients looking to fill a vacancy, filtered by skills, expertise and availability. Assistants then receive a shortlist of ‘job requests' alongside the creative brief which they can accept or decline.
Award-winning makeup artist Sadie Lauder is an ambassador for FMAA and comments:
“I know from my own experiences that it's not uncommon to be overlooked for a role due to factors totally out of your control, such as age, background, gender or race. FMAA is committed to changing this and promoting inclusion across the industry.
“Similarly, we all know that a lot of work is found through word-of-mouth. However, when people move on in their careers, fail to deliver or are forced to pull out of a project at the last minute, this can create some real challenges. This is even more of a challenge during busy periods, such as London Fashion Week, with schedules often changing at the last minute and people being let down.”
