What’s next for hair care in 2020?

Neil Capstick shares his thoughts on the hair care trends we can expect to see as we enter a new decade.

Neal Capstick Neal and Wolf haircareThe hair care industry is fast-paced, driven by ever-evolving consumer preferences.

It's a highly innovative market, driven by the continuous introduction of new trends and styles and the market is rapidly growing.

Here are my thoughts on what we can expect to see in 2020...

Going natural
The evolution of natural hair and beauty products has been prevalent in recent years and as conscious consumerism continues, so will the need for more natural and vegan-friendly products.

As we look to 2020, clients will expect to be offered products that are safe from harmful chemicals, cruelty-free and sustainable for the environment.

Natural and sustainable products aren't just another industry trend, but a long-term transformation and salons should see this as an opportunity for investment. Adopting the natural approach comes with a wealth of benefits for both clients and business, and salons should be progressing alongside this movement.

Colour
Hair colours never go out of style, but year on year we see new trends emerging. Rose gold has been a growing influence on the hair and beauty industry since Pantone chose it as the Colour of the Year back in 2016, and I'm sure we will continue to see it grow in 2020 as more women are daring for the golden pink tint.

For a long time, grey hair was considered ‘dull' or ‘ageing' but 2019 saw popularity grow for the dusty tone. I'm sure we'll see this trend continue with more clients looking to build in some lilac, silver and platinum tones too.

Volume, volume, volume
Volume never goes out of style and in 2020, we will see more clients on the hunt for voluminous cuts and styles.

Big blow-dry's, choppy cuts and volumising products will be on the rise as clients look to thicken their locks and embrace the big hair trend.
