Virtual treatment connects Dermalogica therapists with clients
Launched recently and perfect for the times we find ourselves living through, Dermalogica has developed ProBright@home, which uses professional products for an advanced resurfacing skin treatment delivered through a one-to-one virtual facial between a skin therapist and their client.
I was lucky enough to be invited to try the treatment, which features Dermalogica's intensive treatment products including BioLumin-C Pro Serum, and joined Louise O'Brien, Dermalogica Education Training Manager – Ireland, via Zoom for an at-home facial like no other.
Prior to the treatment, I received a product kit in the post, which included Dermalogica's Pre-Cleanse Oil, Special Cleansing Gel, Daily Microfoliant, Rapid Reveal Peel, Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque, BioLumin-C Pro Serum, BioLumin-C Eye Serum, and Skin Smoothing Cream.
Currently exclusive to the UK and Ireland, the ProBright@home facial mirrors Dermalogica's
ProBright salon treatment but delivered virtually, ideal for when salons are unable to open, or when clients are unable or may not yet feel comfortable attending the salon. Skin therapists guide clients through the different stages, professional application techniques, and full product explanations, addressing pigmentation challenges and boosting absorption of Vitamin C for brighter, smoother skin.
We started by discussing my skin concerns, pin-pointing areas where my skin had started suffering recently with the change of seasons, along with breakouts and subsequent pigmentation that I was desperate to tackle.
The treatment began with Dermalogica's staple double cleanse, featuring an application of Pre-Cleanse Oil, which applied to dry skin, turns milky once water is applied. Key to the absorption of the products to be used later, exfoliation came next. Louise showed me how to mix Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel with Daily Microfoliant into a rich foam, which, when gently massaged into the skin, removed superficial dead skin cells.
After removing with a damp face cloth, a layer of Rapid Reveal Peel was massaged on the skin. Louise explained that this complex of phytoactive AHA extracts, Lactic acid and fermented plant enzymes including Pumpkin Fruit enzyme would resurface the skin and accelerate cell turnover helping to even out the pigmentation I was concerned about.
The lightly tingling peel was massaged onto the skin for around three minutes (Louise explained it can be left on for up to seven minutes), and once removed with a damp cloth, we began layering products.
Firstly, 6-8 drops of Dermalogica's
BioLumin-C Pro Serum were applied across the whole face, followed by a layer of Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque. BioLumin-C Pro Serum is formulated with a complex of two types of Vitamin C, which are ultra-stable and bio-available, and also features Lactic acid. It continues resurfacing and rebalancing uneven skin tone, speeds up healing, and prevents and corrects free radical damage.
The Masque, applied over the Serum, felt rich and nourishing on the skin. Louise explained that my skin would absorb the Masque (my skin must have been suffering from dehydration, as the Masque disappeared quickly!), and its concentrated antioxidant Vitamins A, C and E, would protect my skin from free radical damage and rescue it from its dull appearance. I could also use the Masque as an overnight treatment, to add extra luminosity to my complexion when it needs it.
Whilst the Masque worked its magic, Louise walked me through a series of facial massage techniques to add a wellbeing touch to the treatment. This simple but effective massage targeted the forehead and brow area, cheek bones and jaw, and chin and neck, the areas that I had been feeling the most tension in over the months that I'd be confined to home working and Zoom meetings. I made a mental note to repeat these massage techniques at the end of every day to help relieve tension.
Excess Masque was removed, and a pea-sized amount of
Biolumin-C Eye Serum was dotted under the eye and around the brow bone. Like the BioLumin-C Pro Serum, this eye serum is also powered by Vitamin C complex ensuring it brightens and firms the delicate skin around the eye area.
Proving that you can never have too much of a good thing, a second application of BioLumin-C Pro Serum was now due (only 4 drops this time), and once smoothed over the face, the treatment was concluded by a layer of moisturising Skin Smoothing Cream.
By comparing before and after selfies, I could see that my skin was so much more radiant and plumped than at the start of the treatment, with a healthy looking glow. My skin felt incredibly hydrated, a feeling which continued until the following morning.
Although Louise had only worked with me virtually, I felt I had experienced a professional treatment, using the most advanced products available for home use along with the incredible expertise of a professional. I had been able to follow Louise, as she also performed the treatment on herself, through every stage, learning her application and massage techniques. Despite thinking I was quite savvy when it came to giving myself the odd mini facial at home during lockdown, Dermalogica's ProBright@home elevated the results leaving my skin feeling as if I'd just left the treatment room.
The key is that this facial isn't designed to take business away from the treatment room, but offer therapists an opportunity to
deliver their expertise remotely, ensure that clients remain engaged with their skincare routines when they can't visit the salon, and drive salon retail sales.
Dermalogica trained skin therapists can access training in delivering the ProBright@home treatment via the Dermalogica Education Centre, which provides all of the tools needed to offer virtual treatments to clients. In addition, Dermalogica's Virtual Touch workshops also cover techniques for delivering virtual services.
Dermalogica's In This Together Resource Centre supports professional skin therapists to manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their business as well as give them ways to stay connected.
