Scottish Gov publishes salon opening checklist
With hair salons in Scotland set to open from tomorrow (15th July), and beauty salons, nail salons, spas and make-up counters preparing for reopening from 22nd July, the Scottish government has issued a checklist for salon owners to ensure they are meeting government guidance.
Scotland's guidance for close contact services – such as beauty treatments – is inline with that published by the UK government in their document, ‘Keeping workers and clients safe during COVID-19 in close contact services', revised last week (9th July). Beauty salons, spas, make-up counters, nail bars, sunbed salons and tattooists will be allowed to open on 22nd July subject to enhanced hygiene measures.
- Key measures include:
- Physical distancing with marked areas between seats and treatment stations
- Perspex screens installed at workstations, including reception areas if possible
- Bookings by appointment only with times staggered to minimise overlap of clients
- The retention of customer details for four weeks to share details for Test and Protect if required
- Face coverings mandatory for staff and customers with visors recommended for staff
- Reading materials and refreshments removed other than water on request
In addition, Scottish salon owners have been provided with a checklist to help ensure they are meeting the requirements. The checklist includes physical distancing and signage, adapting services, staff and customer safety, hygiene and cleaning, and customer and staff support.
