Glasgow youngsters celebrate Barber training

A group of young people from Glasgow have graduated with a Level 1 Award: Introduction to Hairdressing and Barbering after an intense eight-week programme.

Run in partnership with charity Action for Children and Rainbow Room International, the education programme offered career opportunities for the youngsters in a real-world setting. Rainbow Room International provided Barbering training combining theory, practical and work experience elements whilst improving the participants' confidence and wellbeing.
In return, Action for Children provided Rainbow Room International's Directors, management and salon teams with training focussed around First Aid for Mental Health and ‘Ask Tell Save a Life' training.

To celebrate the youngsters' success, a graduation day was held at The Finnieston restaurant in Glasgow, with Level 1 Award: Introduction to Hairdressing and Barbering certificates presented along with plaques, tool kits and photo albums.

Commenting on the partnership, Paul Carberry, Action for Children Director for Scotland, says:

“This has been a great partnership, one which we hope will grow in the future. Action for Children are thankful for the professionalism, care and support the Rainbow Room staff have given to our young people. To undertake this training during the challenges of the covid crisis has been remarkable, both for the staff and the young people themselves.”

Leigh Kerr, Academy Director at Rainbow Room International, adds:

“I'm so proud of all the Action for Children boys completing their Level 1 Award; Introduction to Hairdressing and Barbering. They have worked so hard and now have the opportunity to continue their career in hairdressing further if they wish to.”
