George Northwood reveals dress swap initiative

Celebrity hair stylist George Northwood is launching The Dress Circle, an initiative that will encourage salon clients to swap no longer worn clothing with others at his London salon.

The initiative has been devised to tackle the excess of clothing waste and the carbon footprint it creates. It is said that 5% of the UK's total annual carbon and water footprint came from clothing consumption during 2020, with £12.5bn worth of clothes being binned in the UK annually.

Clients are encouraged to bring along something they no longer wear, preferably a dress, to their next salon appointment and swap it for something of similar value.

Donations to George Northwood's Dress Circle have already been made by Stella McCartney, Alexa Chung and Edith Bowman amongst others.

Commenting on the launch of The Dress Circle, George Northwood says:

“I can promise great hair to anyone who visits the salon, but my Christmas wish is to make a tiny contribution to the circular economy by providing the opportunity for my valued clients to give a second life to a garment and leave with a fabulous new one. I hope that by running this initiative it continues to normalise the process and inspire people to swap or borrow clothes more regularly with friends and family. You can shake up your wardrobe without further impact to the planet. It doesn't need to cost a fortune to look great, and it shouldn't cost the Earth either.”
