Expert Opinion: Working from Home Hair Colour
Suzie McGill highlights the current trends in hair colour that sees home-workers experimenting like never before.
With many clients now working from home it's a great time for them to experiment with their hair and hair colour, and perhaps opt for something they may not have been able to wear in their corporate jobs and in the office.
One of the biggest hair trends at the moment is vivid hair colour – think fun, bold and daring. Many celebrities are experimenting with this trend and showcasing their hair colour inspired by colours of the rainbow including bright pinks, blues and greens.
These hair looks being widely featured across social media are inspiring clients to come into the salon for these shades, especially after a long period stuck at home during lockdown where they may feel bored with their current hairstyle and want something a more fun and playful.
Not only are these crazy colour inspired hues becoming popular to wear all over the hair, but also colour blocked through the hair or used to face frame for instant drama. For clients stuck between a couple of different vivid shades, balayage has also been a great technique to suggest, mixing two contrasting shades to create a beautiful blend. It really is a great time for clients to live out their rebellious hair colour fantasies and try out a colour they've always dreamed of trying.
A few of the hair colours we've noticed becoming more requested in the salons recently are hues of sunshine yellow, mandarin orange and firecracker red. Sunset inspired shades that really do make you feel good when you see them and with warm undertones that give a nice glow to the clients complexion.
It's the perfect time for clients to think outside the box with their hair and also team their hair colour with a cut that emphasises the new colour. Pixie cuts and block fringing are two hairstyles we love at Rainbow Room International and look great by themselves and also paired together. If a client is daring to be bold, pairing a vivid colour with one or both of these cuts definitely makes a statement and is a great way to embrace this working from home, out of office hair trend fully.
When discussing these colours and styles with your clients, of course the condition of the hair is the most important aspect of the colour change and ensuring that as little damage as possible is being done to the hair. We always make sure to recommend our clients to include a treatment like Schwarzkopf Fibreplex in their hair colour service or have a hair treatment after the colouring process to ensure hair is in as best condition as possible and has shine.
As these hair colours are so vibrant, it's also important to recommend appropriate aftercare products to clients to take home to keep their colour looking as fresh and as bright as possible. Colour saving shampoos and conditioners and treatments to keep colour locked in are essential, as well as heat protection sprays and serums that can be used pre heated styling tools to avoid colour fading.
