Salons & schools close as England enters lockdown

All salons and beauty and hair businesses across England are now being forced to close as the country enters a full national lockdown.

As well as the closure of salons and spas, hair, beauty, tanning, nail treatments, massage, piercing and tattooing should not be provided in other people's homes.

In addition, schools and training providers must move to remote learning from tomorrow (5th January). It is anticipated that in-school education will resume after February half term. If you are undertaking a beauty or hairdressing course and require confirmation about the continuation of your learning, please contact your training provider direct.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Boris Johnson tonight (4th January) in an address to the nation.

Although all beauty and hair businesses located within Tier 4 regions have been closed since 30th December, those located within Tier 1, 2 and 3 had been permitted to still operate. Education had also been able to take place within all four tiers.

Business owners are urged to take advantage of government financial and business support, in the form of furlough schemes, grants and loans.

England's lockdown period will be reviewed on 15th February.
