Charity offers free haircuts to homeless people

Haircuts4homelessTo mark World Homeless Day, charity Haircuts4Homeless is hosting a pop-up at Victoria Station, London offering free haircuts to people experiencing homelessness.

As well as raising awareness of homelessness in the UK, on Monday 6th October volunteer barbers and stylists will provide free haircuts and simple grooming services, offering a small act of dignity to people experiencing homelessness or insecurity

As of March this year, in excess of 131,000 households in England were in temporary accommodation. Of these, more than 83,000 households included children. On a single night in March 2025, an estimated 3,438 people were sleeping rough in England.

In addition, many more people experience hidden homelessness, such as “sofa surfing,” overcrowded or insecure housing, or staying temporarily with friends or family.

Registered charity Haircuts4Homeless was set up by hairdresser Stewart Roberts, who was inspired by the actions of hairdressers around the world cutting hair for the homeless. Stewart has built a community of skilled hairdresser volunteers who give their time free of charge to give haircuts for homeless people.

Commenting Stewart Roberts says:

“Homelessness is not just a crisis of housing, it's one of dignity, connection and prevention. By setting up outside a major transport hub, we hope to bring the issue directly into public view, let those affected feel a moment of care, and prompt more action from all of us – citizens, authorities, businesses.”

Millie Kendall, CEO of the British Beauty Council and H4H Trustee, adds:

“Every person deserves to feel human again, to sit down and have their hair cut, to look in the mirror with a measure of pride.”
