A new hair and beauty event aimed at empowering women of colour opens today (24th August) in London. Shades of Beauty Live will bring the online offline, and connect brands with consumers.
Celebrating black women's individual expression, the event will be attended by Sharmadean Reid MBE, The Slumflower (Chidera Eggerue), author and founder of the #SAGGYBOOBSMATTER movement, Vogue columnist Funmi Fetto, Capital XTRA's Yinka Bokinni, and Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinene, authors of Slay in Your Lane. Live panel discussions will cover topics around beauty perceptions in the digital age and colourism.
Popular brands exhibiting at Shades of Beauty Live include Schwarzkopf Curls, Revlon Realistic, Twisted Sista, Palmer's, Afrocks, Cantu, Soap & Glory, Primal Beauty, KOL Cosmetics.
Event founder Christina Adesina comments:
“From hairstyles and texture to complexion, black women are as diverse as the shades we come in and so whilst we recognise that we shouldn't be homogenised and deserve to be represented fairly. Shades of Beauty Live is the place for us, by us; whether you wear weave or rock your natural hair. The focus is on taking the online offline and coming together.”
Shades of Beauty Live will also raise funds for the Ashdon Jazz Academy, a charity set up in memory of Ashdon Muirhead to provide mentoring services for girls living in South London.
Shades of Beauty Live runs on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th August in the Lindley Hall at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London. Book tickets online.
