Dermalogica Partners with Shear Haven to bring Anti-Domestic Violence Education to the Skin Care Industry
Dermalogica is proud to announce becoming an official partner of the charity initiative ‘Shear Haven' in an effort to provide domestic violence education to the UK and Ireland's skin care professionals. The ambition of the partnership is to ensure that all professional skin therapists are trained to spot the signs of domestic violence and know how to respond appropriately
Co-founded in 2017 by Susanne Post, a Nashville-based salon owner and a stylist, Shear Haven is an initiative of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, educating salons and stylists in anti-domestic violence training. A survivor of domestic violence herself, Susanne is committed to educating the community on the signs of abuse and the available resources to help victims. This education program was set to equip stylists with the knowledge and tools to recognise the signs of domestic violence, successfully manage conversations with clients who may be in danger and pass along tools to help them get to safety. During the pandemic, Susanne and the YWCA teamed up with disinfection brand Barbicide to offer the Shear Haven training online. To date, more than 50,000 beauty professionals from around the world have taken the training.
Dermalogica will be working with Shear Haven and their UK and Ireland Ambassadors, Salon Business Expert, Liz McKeon, and international wellness journalist and author, Mark Smith, to reach more professionals with the training and provide signposting to appropriate services and resources.
Liz McKeon comments, "As UK and Irish Ambassador for Shear Haven Training my long-term vision is to educate and empower salon professionals to help vulnerable clients and staff, provide a safe environment for victims and hopefully save lives, while recognising the role our amazing industry can play in highlighting the severity of domestic violence in our communities.
I am honoured and privileged to partner with Dermalogica to work together to help make this vision a reality".
Candice Gardner, Dermalogica Education Manager shares, “Skin care professionals are often trusted confidants and salon environments may provide no-judgement emotional safe spaces for those in difficult circumstances. Knowing how to guide clients and team members to the right support services and professionals when they need it could be life saving for an individual. Every skin therapist needs this training, and we are passionate about ensuring it is easily accessible. “
Having a well-established reputation in industry for championing education and skills development, and recognising the importance of human connection for wellbeing, the brand is well placed to share Shear Haven's invaluable training with their wide industry following. Dermalogica will be engaging their professional skin care community to make a difference by making the anti-domestic violence training available across their learning and social platforms.
