Spas aim to tackle UK's stress levels

Spas across the UK are gearing up for National Spa Week (30th October – 5th November 2017), offering consumers deals and introductory taster treatments to demonstrate just how beneficial regular spa treatments can be for physical and mental health.

The awareness week will also aim to dispel some common myths, including the notion that all spas are ostentatious and costly.

Spas already confirmed to be taking part in National Spa Week include, Virgin, Champneys and Nuffield Health. For example, The House of Elemis are offering £30 off any 1 hour BIOTEC facial, plus a free skincare gift worth £25.

To coincide with National Spa Week, the UK Spa Association has revealed that 60% of the UK admit to being unequivocally stressed, with chronic stress proving detrimental to physical and mental health. Daily stress can contribute to high blood pressure, weight gain, poor sleep, memory issues and even more harmful long-term effects.

The survey, which questioned 2,000 adults across the nation, also revealed that only 16% of the country spend their ‘relaxing time' actually relaxing, due to them being constantly connected to the digital world, with money flow (72%), work life (45%) and career progression (43%) all scoring the highest in stress causing factors.

Lisa Barden, Vice Chair of the UK Spa Association, says:

“As a nation, we are busier than ever before, constantly switched on and tuned it. People regularly spend their relaxing and unwinding time engaging with digital content, which can in fact have the complete opposite effect, leaving them even more stressed.

“Spas are dedicated to helping people relax, de-stress and offer a complete wellness experience. They are filled with well trained, empathic professionals who care about you and your needs, yet only 5% of Brits are utilising spas to their full potential.

“National Spa Week is the perfect time to give one a try. You'll discover a much calmer, clearer and more balanced sense of well-being, even after just one visit. The perfect remedy for our constantly switched on, tuned in, stressful lives.”
