Kew Gardens partner with botanical hair brand

Hair care brand Herbal Essences, known for its botanical formulations, is partnering with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to bring cutting-edge botanical science to their range of shampoos and conditioners.

Kew, located in North London, is regarded as the world's leader in plant science and, as it plays home to living and scientific plant fungal collections totalling around 8.5 million specimens, is considered the most biodiverse place on earth. Herbal Essences is the first global hair care product range to gain endorsement from the Royal Botanic Gardens, which has 250 years of plant expertise and research.

Through the partnership, Kew will be verifying the botanicals included in Herbal Essences' bio:renew products, the formulations for which include active antioxidants to help fight environmental factors that can compromise the integrity of the hair, such as water impurities.

Lynn Hicks, Herbal Essences North America Brand Manager, says:

“Kew's dedication to researching and conserving the wonders of nature through science is a mission close to our brand's heart. This is all about beauty rooted in plant science. It speaks to our commitment to deliver beautiful hair with the help of Kew's knowledge of natural ingredients.”

Professor Monique Simmonds, Deputy Director of Science for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew adds:

“Our work is authenticating the botanical ingredients that are in Herbal Essences shampoos, which means that they have been endorsed by Kew scientists.”
