Cancer charity launches virtual Skin Fitness sessions for men

Cancer support charity, Look Good Feel Better, has adapted its ‘Skin Fitness' group sessions for male cancer patients by launching a virtual version online during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cancer treatment can have a devastating effect on skin and hair, as well as on a person's self-confidence, something which research by the charity has shown that men struggle to cope with. The new Virtual Workshops provide practical, down-to-earth advice on how to deal with these issues.

Hosted by men's skincare and grooming experts, topics also cover sun care and advice on scarring, whilst offering a relaxing environment to talk to others in a similar situation.

Mark Sproston, known as The Shavedoctor, who will be introducing a number of live online sessions, as a Look Good Feel Better Ambassador. He says:

“I am delighted to be working together with the charity on this very important project. Men are often afraid to reach out and ask for advice, but these Virtual Workshops are easily available to any man undergoing any type of cancer treatment. All you need to do is sign up, join in and you will receive useful, practical tips on how to look and feel your best.”

The virtual versions of the Look Good Feel Better ‘Skin Fitness' groups have been welcomed by users, including Bob who, pre-Covid-19, attended a face-to-face workshop. Bob explains:

“It's so good to see someone taking an interest in the care and support available to men during and after treatment for cancer. It's not easy for us guys to talk about skincare issues or to adopt any kind of routine. Advice is scarce and, as with all things cancer, it doesn't always meet the need. It is great to see that support for men living with cancer continues in this way.”

To help raise funds to support this new online initiative during the pandemic and beyond, Look Good Feel Better is hosting an online raffle with a Father's Day theme and prizes donated by charity partners including Kenneth Green Associates, Aspects Beauty, Shiseido Group, Rituals Cosmetics, Clarins and Puig. Tickets can be purchased for £2 online until 14th June.
