Green chemistry used to develop Alfaparf Milano's new hair care

Italian brand Alfaparf Milano has launched a new vegan range which has a sustainable approach to hair care at its heart.

Alfaparf Milano's Benvoleo collection comprises four main care lines: Daily, Glossy, Hydration and Recovery, along with a professional in-salon line and finishing products. Products include solid and liquid shampoos, conditioners, a hair mask, detangling leave-in treatment, heat repair spray, a leave-in hair oil and a refreshing mist along with in-salon booster shots of concentrated ingredients mixable with conditioners.

The range is produced in Italy using locally sourced ingredients, many of which are natural origin, through ‘green chemistry' with chemicals and processes that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances.

Oak Bark, Vine Sap, Rice Water and Citrus Fruits extracts are included in the formulations, produced through the process of Hyperfermentation, a two-step procedure to obtain extracts with reduced environmental impact.

Products are free of sulphates, silicones (except for Nutri Care Oil, made with eco-silicones), synthetic colours, petrolatum, paraffins, mineral oils, BHA and BHT.

The formulations are also designed with a water-saving approach such as the solid shampoo that minimises water content and, thanks to a new 100% natural origin surfactant, shampoos, conditioners and masks that require less water when rinsing off the hair.

During production, Alfaparf Milano uses 100% clean electricity from renewable sources, 100% natural gas with offset CO2 emissions and a closed-loop cooling water recovery system. Packaging is made from FSC-Certified recycled cardboard, 50% to 100% recycled plastics and 100% recyclable glass.
